Brazil 1950 will always be remembered as the world cup with the "Maracanazo"
It's been twelve years since the last world cup and with Europe destroyed by the World War II, Brazil was the host country.
The championship was decided with a final round that included the winners of each group in the first round. Brazil and Uruguay arrived to their game knowing that it was a virtual final match, where the winner would be the champion and for Brazil a tie would be enough.
In the Maracaná Stadium and in front of an incredible 220,000 multitude, Uruguay recovered from an adverse 1-0 in the first half to conquer an historic 2-1 for its second World Cup Championship. |
